Description

It is an endemic tree species that can be found in the center-south of Chile, being distributed in very restricted areas of the Andes mountain range and, to a lesser extent, in the Chilean Coastal Range.

Distribution

In Chile, from the Biobío region to the Araucanía region, in a few patches in the northern Andean limit of Los Ríos region and in the coastal mountain range of Nahuelbuta, between 600 and 1700 m.a.s.l.

Habitat and association

In the Andes it associates with nothofagus dombeyi, nothofagus antarctica, nothofagus pumiio, nothofagus obliqua and nothofagus alpina. in the Nahuelbuta mountain range it associates with nothofagus dombeyi, eucryphia cordifolia, weinmannia trichosperma and laurelia sempervirens.
